THE DANCE OF DEMOCRACY “It has been the burden of my generation to fix the broken system we have been handed.” E. Thomasina Marsili During the crisis we face today, dancing may be the last thing that comes to mind. Unemployment has skyrocketed, we struggle with possible life-or-death decisions about everything from grocery shopping to our children's schooling, and thousands remain at risk of eviction while Covid-19 brings grave illness and loss to more of us each day. Despite living in the world's wealthiest nation, we see that our government has failed to support those it exists to represent. Many public servants have lost touch with our needs. At its best, Democracy resembles a dance with each coequal branch of government complementing the others to keep step with the nation. Our job as voters is to choose dancers who understand and move with the magnificent, diverse American symphony composed by We the People. Thomasina understands the dance. As a lifelong Hoosier from rural southern Indiana, she shares our struggles. Long before the onset of Covid-19, she grounded her campaign platform on three fundamentals: employment, education, and healthcare. The Covid crisis shows the necessity of these pillars, and the hardship and chaos that result from their neglect. Thomasina's vision delivers “Hope in 8” when we need it most. This may well be the most important election of our lives. Let's send one of our own to Washington for a change. WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING

The month of July saw Hope in 8 dancing across the 8th District! Thomasina spent Independence Day in Spencer County visiting and celebrating with folks in Richland, Rockport, and Chrisney before stopping in Bloomfield to enjoy the fireworks on her way home. On July 7th she visited Terre Haute for a “Facebook Live” chat with the Vigo County Democrats. Thomasina headed to Booneville for the Southern IN Area Labor Confederation Golf Outing on the 13th, then back north to Vermillion County for a meet & greet and parade in Cayuga on the 22nd, followed by a special guest appearance at Vanderburgh County Democrats “Virtual Chat with the Chair” that evening. She received a warm welcome in Chrisney at the Spencer County Democrats fish fry on July 26th, as described on their website: "Spencer County Democrats also welcomed their candidate for the 8th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, Thomasina Marsili.  Marsili isn’t new to Spencer County having grown up here and graduated from Heritage Hills High School.  Members of her family still call Spencer County home.  During her remarks, Marsili called for a moment of silence for those lost to the current COVID pandemic and led the crowd in the Lord’s Prayer.  She closed by saying, 'This vote is not just for you or me.  When we cast a vote this year, it is about this little girl in front of me; her future.'

A touching moment occurred during the program when 96 year-old attendee William Kitchens of Newburgh was recognized as the only person in the room to have cast a vote for Franklin D. Roosevelt for President.  Kitchens made the trip from Newburgh to show his support for Congressional candidate Thomasina Marsili." (Source: Thomasina also appreciated the support of the Vanderburgh County Democrats who hosted a phone bank on July 27th.

Thomasina continues working to distribute groceries throughout the district, most recently at 2 locations in Spencer County (including her old high school!) on July 28th. On the 29th she delivered a rousing message to members of Indivisible IN 8th District in Terre Haute.
